The Ides of March / Ziua Tradatorilor

In film, conventia partidului urmeaza sa aiba loc pe 15 martie. Cine e Cezar? Cine joaca rolul senatului roman? Cine moare? Ramane sa aflati…

My telly is on CNN. It shows a story presenting diverse statistics regarding the American presidential elections. This reminds me of a film I saw a while ago..

The Ides of March tells Stephen Meyers’ story. How he transforms from the man who had total confidence in the candidate he worked for into a hollow man, who believes in nothing and becomes part of a system made out of so-called friends, who constantly sabotage themselves with the sole purpose of personal gain.

It all starts with Meyers’ enthusiasm and his non-stop dedication to the campaign. We see a smart man, who knows exactly what he has to do and is looked at as being one of the best people in political consultance. After he meets Molly, he starts to realise that the man he is helping get to the top of the country is a dishonest man, who isn’t really any different from the other candidates. Even the ones around him, whom Stephen regarded as friends or close colleagues, end up being nothing more than sharks hungry for the blood of those around them. After many difficult moments packed into a small amount of time, Stephen returns to the place from which he guides his candidate on the way to the White House. But this time, nothing around him really matters for him. He carries on through the world of lies without seeming to be truly alive. He’s more of a ghost of who he once was. A ghost which no longer cares for the principles he used to believe in and are now nothing more than smoke clouds cleared by wind.

This film is one of those films that force you to open your eyes and see things from a different perspective.

The cast brings together several great actors, which bring the story to life using brilliant acting of the characters that go through certain experiences that are meant to change them and are also meant to make us realise what really lays behind what we think we see or what is shown to us.

The title, The Ides of March, takes us to the 15th of March 44 B.C., when Julius Caesar was assassinated by the members of the roman senate. In the film, the state primary was going to be on the 15th of March. Who is Caesar? Who plays the role of the roman senate? Who dies? That is for you to find out…

  1. First off I would like to say awesome blog! I had a quick question that I’d like to ask if you don’t mind. I was interested to know how you center yourself and clear your head prior to writing. I’ve had a hard time clearing my mind in getting my thoughts out. I truly do enjoy writing but it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are usually lost simply just trying to figure out how to begin. Any recommendations or tips? Thank you!

    1. Hello, Shana! Thank you for your kind words! 🙂 I’m an atypical writer because I get to write in almost any kind of conditions, whether there’s noise around me or peace and quiet. Although, while it’s quiet, I can’t really focus because my brain keeps flying off to new thoughts 😀 Most of the times, I write with music in my headphones. Sometimes, when I have to write an article because my deadline is coming up, but I can’t focus on it, if I can, I change the subject and if I can’t, I take a break and go out for a small walk with my dog. I live in a quite quiet area and strolling around in fresh air sometimes makes me magically turn on my writing inspiration and words start flowing. I don’t think there is a perfect recipe because I think everyone is different and each one of us has our own way of doing this. For example, my mother cannot write if there is noise or movement around her. She looses her string of thoughts instantly. And she gets jealous (in a funny way) of me when she sees me writing almost anywhere :)) I guess the best thing you can do is write whenever you can and don’t be mad at yourself for not being able to write sometimes. For me, it’s been kind of much like riding a bike. The more I wrote, the easier it got for me to find my inspiration. I still have moments when I can’t focus, but I try not to beat myself up for it. We’re not robots and that is why we are able to create something beautiful with our words. I hope I was able to help you and I wish you will be able to find time and inspiration for your passion! 🙂
