Astfel, ajunge sa comita o crima odioasa, in urma careia a fost inchis.

This past week I went with my friends to the cinema and even though we looked over the schedule a thousand times and we kept changing our minds, in the end we decided to watch “Legend”. I walked in the cinema expecting a pretty good film, considering the cast and the two good film producing companies: StudioCanal and Working Title (initially an independent company, presently a subsidiary of Universal Studios) and within minutes I was drawn in the atmosphere of the film.

It is a film about Reggie and Ron Kray, twin brothers who share a strong and affectionate bond that will end up creating problems for both of them, but in different ways. Reggie was the one who knew best how to take care of their “business” which was connected to the criminal world. Thought rich and known by everybody exactly for who he was, Reggie was humane, not violent only for the sake of violence, but he could be a most terrible enemy as well for those who disobeyed him. Ronald was completely different. He suffers from paranoid schizophrenia, doesn’t think rationally, is extremely suspicious and takes action entirely based on the spare of the moment. Thus, he ends up committing a most terrible murder thanks to which he is locked up. But Reggie takes care of everything, so that Ronald won’t be declared insane, nor be kept behind bars.

At the same time, Reggie falls in love with his driver’s sister, who will become the most important person in his life. Ronald disease evolves, creating more and more problems which cannot be resolved even by Reggie, while the policemen are getting closer to him and his wife is getting further away from him. This is how Reggie becomes caught between the desire to make his brother takes it easy and the despair with which he tries to keep his wife.

Watching this film I have gone through different feelings, from despise and even a little disgust in regard to Ronald’s deeds, to compassion for the suffering endured by Reggie and I was amazed by the way funny moments were combined with moments of drama and actions. I can honestly say that I was most surprised by Tom Hardy’s acting, who played both brothers. I didn’t expect him to be such a good actor that I would see the despair in Reggie’s eyes and the madness in Ronald’s. I knew Tom Hardy is a good actor, but I didn’t expect him to be such a good one.

This is a film inspired by a true story. At the end, we discover a small details that brought tears to my eyes, but I won’t tell you what it was, I will let you find out for yourselves.

“Legend” can be seen in cinemas, however if you plan to watch it, you must keep in mind that it is a pretty long film, lasting 131 minutes. Either way, I think it is well worth watching every minute of it.
